Detective David Starsky raised in New York in a family of more modest origins that include Jewish, Polish and Hungarian. At age 15 he suffered a tragedy because his father, a policeman, was shot in the street on the orders of the local sponsor. It is then sent to live in Los Angeles with his Uncle Al and Aunt Rosie, while his younger brother, Nick, is in New York with their mother. Little interest in studies, he chose to join the police in 1968 where he became a teammate Kenneth Hutchinson, who will then be his best friend.
Temperament is impulsive enough, it keeps its characteristic rose from street urchin, Starsky is hardly a diplomat and not hesitate to want to fight when it feels attacked, particularly by the feds. He also repeatedly threaten to resign. Fortunately for him, Hutch is always there to calm him down. On the heart, it is a seducer of mechanical drive before adoring women. What precludes it from being romantic once a couple, with more than once dreamed of marrying. One of his most serious relationship was Terry Roberts, a young animator center for the disabled.
Starsky became a sergeant in 1971 along with teammate Hutch and its first investigation leads to arrest Gary Vincent Prudholm. The latter died in prison a few days later and his father, George Prudholm, then Starsky held responsible for his death. When two years later Starsky killed in self defense, a young boy of 16, George Prudholm decides to take revenge on Starsky and demanded his resignation, otherwise he would kill a police officer every day. Fortunately, Starsky finally put him the upper hand. A year later, Prudholm escapes from the prison psychiatric in which he was confined. Again, he seeks revenge. He will then kill Terry Roberts, with whom Starsky went out and began to make wedding plans.
Besides his life as a police officer, Starsky also has a great passion in life: his Ford Gran Torino red white stripe, which will be in the series as famous as the two police officers themselves. Starsky's pampered every day but must regularly take her to the Merle Great, his mechanic to repair the consequences of their chases and other shootings.
Apart from his side a little show-off, the other big flaw Starsky is to be superstitious. Unlike Hutch, he believes them to all the stories of bad luck or ghosts. Thus, when their investigations will show that a murderer commits his crimes in the manner of vampires, Starsky will believe firmly that the vampires do exist, not hesitating to get snagged a clove of garlic around the neck. Starsky also confidence in astrology, especially when it provides good news for him, especially his stories of heart. Moreover, when it must attend various hearings of Justice, it always goes to the bathroom before entering the room, so the meeting goes as he wishes. Finally, he is very proud to be a lefty.

Comments
Relaxation and working methods of forceful characters have brought a revival in the image of police television series of the 1970s , mostly posed, polite and well dressed. The series has enjoyed considerable success in its infancy, but in 1977 , a campaign against violence on television shook American success. The writers are forced to cut scenes of action in favor of more romantic or comic scenes. The spirit of the series is gone and in 1979 , Starsky and Hutch return permanently to their famous car in the garage, never to emerge.
In France , the series owes part of its success to the voice of Jacques Balutin (Starsky) and Francis Lax (Hutch). Balutin Lax and amused to change or add comic reflections giving viewers the impression that the French comedy was much more present than it was in the original ... Phenomenon that had previously been the case of French dubbing of The Persuaders ( Persuaders ). The theme song written and composed by Haim Saban and sung by Lionel Leroy , also contributed to the success of the series.
In 1977 , the episode 2-20 (No luck Huggy) where Starsky & Hutch are replaced by Huggy and his friend that Turkey become private detectives, was to launch his own Antonio Fargas Huggy Bear series but the episode was a failure and its series canceled.
Paul Michael Glaser has directed five episodes and David Soul three.
If Starsky adored his Ford red and white, it was absolutely not the case with Paul Michael Glaser , who, during an interview for the channel M6 in 2004 , on the occasion of the movie Starsky and Hutch in end of which he and David Soul are a small appearance in the blink of an eye, confessed, "I hated this car: it was big, heavy, bulky, cornering, Hutch fell over me ... No, really, as soon as I could, I smashed the car! "
Given the success of the series, Ford realized in 1976 , a series of special cut Gran Torino red and white just baptized Starsky & Hutch and made 1000 copies. This is one of them is used in the film, a copy purchased new and piously preserved by a fan of the series, who graciously lent his car to film production.
